I’m just a Jules in the world…

Gay on and island

So, there are a lot of expats here. Several Fortune 500 companies have divisions here – if I’m not mistaken. It’s a lot like the social setting at home.

Sometime I will talk about how I got here and what we went through. For now, I want to clue everyone in on the acceptance I feel.

Catholicism is the primary religious composition BY FAR. Think of homosexuals and Catholic beliefs. You probably have Catholic friends who love you no matter what. Maybe you are Catholic… But, if you know anything about religion, you will know that homosexuality is a huge sin.

Let be back up a second and say that religion is a huge part of daily life here, regardless of the denomination. (I’m not terribly religious, so please excuse any times that I goof.)

Worship is practiced at the maximum interval. Like Wednesday Mass, the cathedrals are packed. In the states there are a lot of “C & E’s”. People who only practice their religion at Christmas and Easter. hehe I don’t think you would find that here.

I feel completely welcomed here. Even to the point that I openly speak about my TRUE life – there is no need to play the “pronoun game”. The culture is very touchy-feely with friends of the same sex, often holding hands or locking arms. Now, members of the opposite sex are hands-off!

I’m rambling and have lost my focus. The main point is: I live on a small island, everyone knows everyone else (and their business), I feel so very welcome, and I can be me.
